Response from Adrants!

Got a little response from Adrants about my latest post.

Steve Hall said...

Jamie,

We did not create the ad. We did not Photoshop the ad. We had nothing to do with the creation of the ad. We write about ads. We don't create them.

The was sent to us and claimed to have been real. The "response" you quote is not a response to the lawsuit but a paragraph from the original story we wrote about the ad. The story has since been pulled.

Obviously, we would not respond to a lawsuit like that.

Guess tmz got the entire story wrong, including falsely quoting you?  You should probably sue TMZ!  It's the American Way!

I blog too much

Some internet geek is fired up.

www.adrants.com (i should get money for this)

There is a lawsuit against adrants about some dumb ad they put on their site...it's not even that funny.  But it got there name on a whole lotta websites, including tmz.com which has millions of readers.  I made that up, I don't know how many readers they have...but it's gotta be alot, that's where I read it.

So Virgin Airlines is suing adrants and this is what Adrants said in their statement about the lawsuit.

"We've seen Virgin turn ugly situations to its advantage before, making it [the fake advertisement] very much in keeping with the Virgin brand persona. The only thing saving the tribute from being in terrifically bad taste is the fact that no one lost his or her life in the crash. So woot! -- slather your big reds all over those news shots, V."

WOOT??? lmao....omg....lol...rofl....alright enough.  The "Honcho" at adrants said....WOOT in a statement.  I almost pee'd my pants when I read that.  He's being suied by Virgin Airlines if i'm not mistaken...that's a pretty big company I think.

So here we have it.  A lawsuit against a blogger for photoshopping together some horrible incident and tying it together in a way that we all know people were already thinking.  All in all a plane fell into the river because of some birds right?  Everyone lived...thank Sully, but come on....a lawsuit???

Bloody Monday

68,000 people lost their job today....

That's a stadium of people....

Today alone, 70,000 people lost their jobs.  70,000 people are going to have to file for unemployment.  70,000 people are going to be looking for other jobs.  70,000 people have no idea what is going to happen in the future.

In one day....

Despite what your hearing, despite what is being said, this didn't happen in the 80's....this happened during The Great Depression.

Doomsday me til my eyes turn blue.  I don't know about you, but my ass is getting educated on the happenings of that time in history. So here's a little lesson:

Effects of depression in the United States[39]:

  • 13 million people became unemployed.
  • Industrial production fell by nearly 45% between the years 1929 and 1932.
  • Homebuilding dropped by 80% between the years 1929 and 1932.
  • From the years 1929 to 1932, about 5,000 banks went out of business.
  • By 1933, 11,000 of the US' 25,000 banks had failed.
  • In 1933, 25% of all workers and 37% of all nonfarm workers were unemployed.
  • Between 1929 and 1932 the income of the average American family was reduced by 40%.

Here is how it was solved:

In the United States, the massive war spending (WW2) doubled the Gross National Profit, either masking the effects of the Depression or essentially ending the Depression.

Businessmen ignored the mounting national debt and heavy new taxes, redoubling their efforts for greater output to take advantage of generous government contracts.

Productivity soared: most people worked overtime and gave up leisure activities to make money after so many hard years. People accepted rationing and price controls for the first time as a way of expressing their support for the war effort.

Cost-plus pricing in munitions contracts guaranteed businesses a profit no matter how many mediocre workers they employed or how inefficient the techniques they used.

The demand was for a vast quantity of war supplies as soon as possible, regardless of cost. Businesses hired every person in sight, even driving sound trucks up and down city streets begging people to apply for jobs. New workers were needed to replace the 11 million working-age men serving in the military.

These events magnified the role of the federal government in the national economy. In 1929, federal expenditures accounted for only 3% of GNP. Between 1933 and 1939, federal expenditure tripled, and Roosevelt's critics charged that he was turning America into a socialist state.  However, spending on the New Deal was far smaller than on the war effort.

So, there you have it.  In order to solve the Economic Crisis, all we have to do is start World War III.

Wrapping MY HEAD around it...

***WARNING WARNING WARNING - Very Long and Very Boring article that I wrote about my frustrations and naivity about our current economic crisis and what it means to me. BEWARE! ***

I woke up today irritated.  Irritated that nobody has options, irritated that people are being taken advantage of, irritated that although i'm comfortable where I am, I know that job security has become a thing of the past.

I feel like i've done my part as an American.  I know my family has and my friends have.  We have paid our taxes, we have helped our communities, we have voted and we have FAILED.  All of what we do to try to make our America a better place is worthless.  We are getting our payback now.  Welcome it with open arms, because it's not going to change anytime soon.  My faith in our new President is strong, however it seems hopeless to even try to think positively.

When we were born, what is the path that we were asked to follow?  Education, Work, Family.  That's the golden rule eh?  Get an education, get a great job and build and support a family.  How is that possible? Unless you went into Healthcare or work at Wal Mart, you are not safe right now.  I guarentee there are 100 people who would take your job and work harder for less money than you are.  I guarentee that you are expendible.  Nobody is safe.  You think you keep that company running?  Hah, companies are now realizing that because of the economy that they have an opportunity to reorganize.  What does that mean?  Spend less.  Fire you, hire someone for half as much.  Fire you, and replace it with outsourcing.  Fire you, hire someone who will take the job without receiving health care benefits.  Companies are using the failing economy as a nicer sounding excuse to get rid of you and cut their costs.  "I'm sorry, the economy has hit us hard...and we have to let you go...good luck".  Whatever.

Americans are desperate, we will work for pennies just to HAVE a job.  And those who realize they can't get a job are forced to live off Unemployment, which honestly is probably more money than they would receive finding another position.  So we've become an America that lives on unemployment, has no future and has no options.  The most important people within our communities, educators and protectors, are paid the worst.  They are laying off school teachers and police officers.  How is this possible???  HOW DOES THAT ANSWER OUR PROBLEMS???

I pay my taxes.  I have paid my taxes since I was 15 and got a job.  I have given to my community, I have given to my government.  For what?  FOR WHAT?????  Two Thirds of my money is being given to Defense, Social Security and Health Care.  I am giving my money to a healthcare system that I don't even belong too!  To a healthcare system that can only be afforded by the wealthy!  I am giving money to a Social Security Ponzi Scheme that will not even be around when i'm old enough to benefit from it!  The rest of my money, is being given to assist in the national debt, safety net programs for the poor (food stamps), scientific research, education and transportation.

Let's look over each of these.  The National Debt.  The National Debt was created by whom?  The American people of course, we were given credit cards and didn't pay them, we bought houses that we can't afford and we were forced into a war that most didn't agree with.  The Credit system has FAILED.  But without it, where are we?  Unless we have 100k cash, we can't buy a house?  Nowadays the chances of you finding a house for 100k is nearly impossible, especially in communities that do not have failing school systems.    Unless your credit score is 700, you can't buy a car?  Fine, then we need to start providing those who don't have 100k  or a credit score of 700, reasonable and effective options to travel and live.

Whats next, safety net programs for the poor.  This is a great idea with no fact checking behind it.  So many people are taking advantage of this system that it is worthless to give when so many people are just taking.  We need to give those who are poor, more than just food stamps, we need to offer them ACTUAL MEANS TO IMPROVING THEIR LIVES.  If you are born in the ghetto, get a horrible education because your communities schools are failing, WHAT OPTIONS DO YOU HAVE???????????  NONE.

As far as Education goes, we all know it's failing, we all know that schools are overpacked, teachers are overworked and underpaid, they always have been.  Teachers used to be an inspiration.  Now they are working two jobs in order to survive and students are acting out in ways that cannot be controlled.  I wonder if the Government realizes that without an educated population, we are no better than most 3rd world countries.  And then it all comes back to the Credit Crisis.  If in order to get student loans you need to have established or GREAT credit, there will be less students going to college.  And for those that do go, the tuition is going to be twice as much putting them into twice as much credit debt.

So my question is, why am I giving my money that I worked for, to an institution that is failing us?  I would rather write a check to the school system myself, knowing that it will actually go to the facility that needs it.  I would prefer to earn my money and choose what I want to do with it.  I realize taxes have been around forever, but I think right now is a good example of how we have been played as Americans.  We have been duped into believing that if we continue to work hard and educate ourselves and our families, that we would have a promising future.  That is not true.  Even those with the greatest credit in the world and zero debt and those who have masters degrees are screwed.  So tell me, what exactly am I putting my money towards?  Is it a promising future for myself and my family?  NO. It's not.  Not anymore.

But what options do we have?   I guess we can all live by the mantra "Everything happens for a Reason"....."You lost your job for a reason"  "You lost your house for a reason"  "You lost your benefits for a reason"  "You lost your future for a reason".....Good Luck.

Wrong Again

Thanks for everyone who watched the show on Friday night!  We felt good about it, although I hate hearing myself on the air and my voice annoys me.  But other than that, it was fun to sit and chat :)  Now that we have a lot of the kinks worked out we can start working on stuff to further advance the show.  We have a phone number for call in's, but we need to do some testing before we can get it up.  We also want to try to get some prizes involved, because everyone loves prizes!  :)
So if you listened to the show, you heard me and tail getting in to it about buying in bulk.  Tail said it's a scam and that you end up paying more than you would have, had you just bought the items not in bulk.  I obviously thought that was ridiculous and bad business.  In the end, I won the fight (because it just does not make logical sense, if you purchase in bulk, it's ALWAYS cheaper)  and now I just need to prove him wrong even more.

SO.....thanks to the interwebs I looked up some information from both Wal Mart and Samsclub.  I decided I needed some batteries.  Everyone buys batteries right?  I need them for my camera and I need a lot of them, so I went to Sams Club first:
Pretty good deal I thought.  36 double A batteries for $26.87.  That ends up being 75 cents a piece per battery.

Then I went and checked at Wal Mart.

Same batteries, they have 8 of them for $5.68.  Which ends up being 71 cents a piece.

So......what does that tell you?

I WAS WRONG.  THE BATTERIES ARE CHEAPER AT WAL MART IF YOU BUY THEM IN SMALLER PACKS.  SO WHY IN THE HELL ARE PEOPLE SHOPPING AT SAMSCLUB FOR BULK ITEMS?????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????

Tuche' Tail....you won this round.  And people who shop for bulk items are being ripped off.

Albums that Changed my Life

Read a good article today on CNN called "Love at first listen: Albums that Shaped Your Lives".  It got me thinking, what were the albums in my life that I remember changing and shaping my future.  I mean, music has a bigger impact on us than most things do, short of our parents, school and friends.  As a background to my generation, I was born in 82, so I was a kid of the 90's.

These are the albums I feel actually changed my life:

REM - Monster (1994)

I am pretty sure I listened to the song "Tongue" about 4 million times....in a row.   Ive always been an REM fan, but this cd is the most memorable.

Simon and Garfunkel - Bridge Over Troubled Water (1970)

I don't know when I first started listening to Simon and Garfunkel, I have no idea why I love them so much....I just do.  Bridge over Troubled Water is one of my favorite cd's of all time.  "The Boxer" is a song that, not because of the lyrics, but because of the sound, changed my life.  It's art.  I remember having some of the lyrics to The Boxer written on my mirror in my bathroom when I was 20 years old and moved out to Philadelphia by myself without knowing what the hell I was doing with my life or where I was going.  Every single song on this album is beautiful.

Sublime - 40oz to Freedom

Alright, so most everyone I know would list Sublime as a favorite.  Reggae, Punk, Ska, Hip Hop, Funk, Rock....damn, I love Sublime.  It's a tragic story w/ lead singer Bradley Nowell overdosing....he hopefully knows how much of a success and impact that Sublime has had on the lives on millions.   "54-46 That's my Number/Ball and Chain" is a big favorite of mine, the way they change the melody of the song is awesome.  "KRS One", "Smoke Two Joints", "Rivers of Babylon"...man the list goes on.  I could listen to this entire cd at any time, it's flawless.  FLAWLESS.  'Nough Said.

They Might Be Giants - Flood (1990)

Ahh, memories of snowboarding at Mr. Brighton....screaming at my brother about what the correct lyrics were to "Birdhouse in my Soul".  The only reason I know of TMBG is from my older sister and brother.  I don't love every cd by them (ie. Mink Car), but Flood and Apollo 18 are great albums.  They are weird, funny and experimental.  What's best, is that they are now making childrens albums (Here come the ABC's), which is a favorite of my Nieces.  TMBG is timeless, not loved by everyone but definitely a huge part of my life.

Beastie Boys - Licensed to Ill (1986)

"Girls" "Paul Revere" "Fight for your Right" "No Sleep til Brooklyn" "Brass Monkey"....I mean come on, this should be in every single persons Mp3 collection and if it isn't, you suck.  Again, Beasties were introduced to me on cassette tape by my sister and brother.  I don't know how you classify there style.  It's rap, but like....campy rockrap.  Whatever it is, it works, and has worked for decades now.  Hits and misses, yes, but long live the Beasties.  They are badass, their music is fun and catchy and I love it.

Dave Matthews - Crash (1996)

Alright.  So Dave Matthews is soft.  He's doing Amex commercials.....he has "sold out"....whatever.  His music is sick, it's moving, it's beautiful, it's art and I love it.  I can listen to Dave Matthews all day long, no matter if it's music i've heard or not.  I got his cd in 1996, I was 14.  I loved every song on this cd.  I have bought probably 4 copies of it throughout my life, due to it getting lost of stolen.  When I was 18 and just moved to Breckenridge Colorado, I remember listening to this cd as I went out in my Ford Explorer to explore Colorado.  I drove up the Continental Divide and was on top of the world while listening to this cd.  This might not make sense to anyone, but I remember listening to this whole cd once and thinking that it could possibly be the soundtrack to Beauty and the Beast.  Which is weird, but oddly true.  It matches.

That's all I got for now.  Might not seem super ecclectic and deep, but it's music I loved when I was younger.  I grew up listening to Motown and Oldies mainly because of my mother, which is my roots....but this is music that was found and that was different than what I was used too.  You dig?

Oi!

Well, we were prepared, have made new commercials, new intro stuffs....we gathered tons of stuff to talk about, we had people tuning into the new show, and we get to the studio and guess what?  Nothing works.....we switched to all three of the studios and nothing was working....

Now, it's too early for me to start talking badly about the location where we are putting on The Experience, but soon.....soon I will be.

So needless to say, the show "did not go on".  We were frustrated yet again and drowned our sorrows in karaoke and drinks....I just want to thank everyone for tuning in and hanging in there.  Nothing you can do when your working with equipment that doesn't work.

SOOOoooooooooo, with that being said.   Check back to see when we will be broadcasting next.  I don't know when or where or how, but it'll happen, we will make this happen.

First Show Jitters

Well, the first show that I was on, went well.  It had some glitches at the beginning, but they aren't our fault.  We are using a studio that is at a school, it's the only thing we got and unfortunately other people use the studio as well and it causes some problems.  All I can say is, with all the issues that come up, at least we are tackling them one by one.  The show isn't going to ever be perfect, no show ever is.  They eff up on Howard Stern and he's been on the air for like 150 years.  ;)  It's a lot of fun to just bullshit with the guys and get different opinions about stuff going on.  We might not be comedians, we might not be extremely entertaining, but it's a whole lotta fun and we are doing what we want to do.

With that being said, it's been a little trying hearing the negative....a majority of which is just from spite and not actually constructive criticism.  Can you really talk crap about a group of people who are just trying to do something that they are interested in?   You can't please everyone and all I can do is laugh it off.  I'm thrilled to even have the opportunity to be a part of this.  I'm spending two hours talking to two of the most intelligent and funny guys i've ever met.

Remember,  It's new, it's not perfect, it's a learning process, we want you to be just as much a part of it as we are.  So if you really think something could be improved, then email us.  If you have a funny idea for the show, if you want to be ON the show, ANYTHING, just email us.

Listen tonight starting at 7pm!  WE FINALLY GOT A PHONE NUMBER!!!  So Call in!

Holidays and Babies :)

Well, the holidays have come and go.  It was busy, but not too busy.  I spent the time with my family which was wonderful.  My sister had my new baby niece on Saturday the 27th.  Baby Anna, momma, daddy and my beautiful niece Lily are all doing wonderful.  I still haven't seen my beautiful new niece because I was struck down by the sickness that is sweeping florida.  I still don't feel 100%, but am getting there.  I am hoping this weekend to head out there to see the new baby. :)

The show is starting back up for 2009 on Wednesday January 7th from 7pm - 9pm.  Make sure to check it out :)

Lotsa love,
Jamie
